Chamber Music Assignments

Each participant is assigned to two ensembles. For groups assigned multiple movements or works, please note that programming for the final concert may be limited to a single selection.

Participants are expected to thoroughly know their part and the score as a whole prior to their arrival to IIMIF on June 19. Your ensemble will have up to 8 days to bring your assignment(s) to performance level for the chamber music concert on Saturday, June 27 (even less time if you play in a masterclass!). Listen to and play along with any available recordings, ask your teachers for help, and read up on the composer and particular work. Ensure that the measures are numbered before your first rehearsal. Copied/printed music should be spiral-bound or placed in a binder for easy page turns.

May 22: Chamber Ensemble Excerpts Posted We will post the specific excerpts we would like you to record as a video. Making this video will help you feel more confident for day 1 of rehearsals at IIMIF!
  • New for 2026: To help you prepare for your video submission, we are offering optional 30-minute online coaching sessions specifically focused on these excerpts. These are a great way to get a head start on the technical and musical demands of your chamber music assignment. If you are interested in scheduling a pre-festival lesson, please let us know and we will provide scheduling and tuition details.
June 5: Videos of Chamber Music Excerpts Due Submit your recordings for faculty feedback.
June 19: Welcome to IIMIF!

*Having the entire Mozart G minor Piano Quartet assigned across three groups presents a unique opportunity. While your assigned movement is the priority for concert and rehearsal preparation, everyone is invited to look at an additional movement. Midweek, we will have an optional mix and match session where you can swap movements and rotate players with the other ensembles. No need for the extra movements to be "performance-ready" - remember, your focus is on your assigned movement!

"I loved that IIMIF focuses on the emotional and spiritual side of the musician just as much as the technical side. I've been to several summer programs, and this sets your program apart."

"The focus on a holistic approach and comprehensive musicianship made for an incredible experience. There are not enough words to capture how grateful I am for what I learned."

"I especially loved that this festival is so intimate. Great things come in small packages!"
