Sharon Eng
Sharon Eng, Ph.D. is a seasoned international strings educator, clinician, chamber recitalist and conductor. She has performed world premieres of solo viola works and has appeared as viola soloist, chamber recitalist and guest master class clinician in 11 countries on six continents. Currently director of the strings program at Jakarta International School, she completed her Bachelor and Master degrees in viola performance at the Juilliard School where she was a five-year scholarship student of Willliam Lincer and Paul Doktor. Sharon is co-founder of Classical Nuances, a unique trio comprising of piano, oboe and viola which has performed throughout Asia, Australia, and parts of North America, Europe and the Middle East. Dr. Eng has had three solo viola works and a three-movement sonata for viola and piano written for her by renown Indonesian composer, Mrs. Trisutji Kamal. Under Dr. Eng's baton, Jakarta International School's two flagship string orchestras--the JIS Sinfonia and the JIS Symphonic Strings--have played to thousands of appreciative music lovers around the world: Bangkok, Budapest, Manila, Salzburg, Shanghai, Rome, Vienna and more. Her long career as violist encompasses opera, orchestra, recordings, contemporary music, chamber music and solo engagements, including contracts with the American Ballet Theatre, New York City Opera, Kennedy Center Orchestra, Washington 20th Century Consort and the Bennington Vermont Contemporary Music Forum. Dr. Eng currently serves as advisor to a number of Indonesian arts and educational institutions including the JakArt International Festival Committee, University Pelita Harapan, and Yayasan Music International.
