Kara Iwanowski began playing the piano at the age of five and has since found music to be the common thread among her favorite life experiences.
Among her honor and awards are 2019 Distinguished Young Woman of Maryland, distinctions in the Maryland State Music Teachers Association Piano Competition and International Young Artists Piano Competition, Gold Cup from the National Federation of Music Clubs Festival, and multi-year recipient of the Judy Famous Scholarship. She has performed as soloist with the Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra for Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos, Malcolm Arnold's Stolen Face, and Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2. Kara is a 2019 graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts, and was recognized as Valedictorian. BSA provided Kara with an extensive theory education as well as an intense, immersive environment in which she could develop her skills and musicianship. Kara participated in the school’s chamber chorus, where she sang works such as Carmina Burana, Brahms’ Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2. At BSA, Kara was been able to form chamber groups with her peers as well as participate in performance opportunities with groups such as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Johns Hopkins Symphony and Chorus. Kara's primary teachers have been Marian Hahn and Elizabeth Borowsky. She has also received guidance in masterclasses and lessons with Brian Ganz, Arno Drucker, Frederick Minger, Washington Garcia, Mark Hardy, Cecylia Barczyk, and Jonathan Carney. Kara hopes to learn and grow every day as a musician and person. In the Fall of 2019, Kara will begin her studies as a scholarship recipient at the University of Miami where she plans to study music education and collaborative piano. Kara has a been part of IIMIF since a young age and is passionate about making it an amazing experience for all the participants! |
